Whetstone Financial is committed to helping others. All of our associates contribute time, talent, and financial support to a wide range of philanthropic efforts in the communities where we live and work. In 2016, we established the Whetstone Fund at the Marion Community Foundation with contributions exceeding $100,000. The account is a donor-advised fund, which permits us to recommend annual grants to charities of our choice.
In 2018, the Whetstone Fund distributed more than $4,000 to Leapin’ Outreach Center, a major source of free clothing and personal care items for those in need. Leapin’ Outreach elected to use the funds to construct a much-needed shower facility for the city of Marion’s homeless population.
In 2019, the Whetstone Fund donated $5,000 to the Marion Police Department K-9 Unit which used the proceeds to purchase an emotional therapy dog. Chip is a "compassion cop" serving with Lt. Gruber and his duties include visiting schools, nursing homes, and special events. He provides support to those who have experienced trauma and comforts children who are victims of abuse or violence.
During the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021, Whetstone Financial was honored to join with Marion Rotary and the Marion Park Enhancement Project (PEP) to donate $5,000 each year for a total of $10,000 toward the creation of an all-inclusive, all-ability playground at McKinley Park, in Marion. This facility is one of only 14 in the state of Ohio.
In 2022, in consideration of economic difficulties due to increasing inflation and cost of living, the Whetstone Fund donated $5,000 to the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry. This organization serves those of Marion County who are less fortunate and need help providing food for their family. St. Vincent de Paul currently serves approximately 600 households per year.
We are pleased that our advisors and associates continue to donate to the Whetstone Fund. In addition, we are thankful for the financial donations of our broker/dealer, Commonwealth Financial Network®.
